In a blog post, Shifty Jelly said that this new venture will help achieve “the goal of partnering for the good of the entire podcast industry, we knew that this opportunity was something else entirely.” NPR said that Pocket Casts users will still be able to enjoy the app like before.

From this point onwards, Pocket Casts will operate as a joint venture, Shifty Jelly founders, Philip Simpson and Russell Ivanovic will have new leadership roles and the existing staff and development team will stay in place. Owen Grover will become the CEO of Pocket Casts, Grover previously was the Executive Vice President and General Manager at iHeartRadio. I’ve personally been using Pocket Casts for all my podcast needs and one of my favourite apps to use.
Pocket Casts is one of the top podcast players out there, across multiple platforms including, Android, iOS, the web and more. NPR along with WNYC Studios, WBEZ Chicago and This American Life has announced that they’ve acquired the popular podcast app, Pocket Casts from Australian developer, Shifty Jelly.
